WA Falls On The Road

Traveling to West Simsbury, CT, to play league foe Masters School, WA fell behind early, was able to rally, but could not hold Masters down in the end.

Early baskets by sophomores Quest Harris (Lowell, MA) & Josh Ogundele (London, ENG) got WA back in the game.  Fellow sophomore Judson Martindale (Sudbury, MA) provided a spark off the bench with an early 3-pointer en route to 10 first-half points.  Junior forward Mitch Doherty (Acton, MA) was a perfect 3/3 from behind the arc in the early frame.  A triple by junior guard Dylan Lien (Northborough, MA) with under four seconds to play in the half gave the Hilltoppers a 39-36 lead heading into halftime.

A quick scoring run by Doherty to open the half and a personal 5-0 run by Martindale pushed the WA lead to 13 early in the half.  But Master's kept coming at the Hilltoppers and was able to tie the game with seven minutes to go.  A back & forth affair lead to a nailbiting final minute.  Two FTs by Harris pulled the WA deficit to one.  Master's through the ball away with 1 second to go, but a last Hilltopper attempt fell short.

Doherty lead WA with a career-high 29 points (including 4/4 from 3PG) and 6 assists.  Martindale continued his strong play with a 21-point effort (on 6/8 shooting).  Harris chipped in 12, while junior forward Matt Corey (Londonderry, NH) scored 10 points.

WA falls to 6-7 in NEPSAC Class AA play.  They will play league opponent South Kent School on Friday at Rhode Island College as part of the National Prep School Invitational.
