CA Defeats WA, 64-63

Rival league opponent Cushing Academy visited Rowe Court on Wednesday afternoon. A tight game throughout required a late Hilltopper rally, but they fell to the visiting Penguins. Early 3-pointers by sophomore forward Judson Martindale (Sudbury, MA & junior forward Matt Corey (Londonderry, NH) put WA up 6-2 early. The rest of the half would be a back-and-forth affair. A late 3-pointer by junior guard Paul Durkee (Shrewsbury, MA) and an ensuing steal & buzzer-beating 3-pointer by sophomore point guard Quest Harris (Lowell, MA) put WA up 31-28 at the half. The second Half would be a hard-fought defensive battle. Cushing emerged with a 10-point lead late, but WA fought back to get within one point late. A last second play broke down, and Cushing emerged with the win. Harris lead the way for WA with 20 points, 8 rebounds & 5 assists. Durkee added 12 points, while junior guard Jordan McAllister scored 10 points. Worcester Academy will host their final home game of the year this Friday at 5pm vs. Holderness. As part of Senior Night, the Hilltoppers will honor post-graduates Matthew Carlin (Fayeteville, NY) & Aaron Jaynes (Framingham, MA), along with seniors Paul Kelleher (Holden, MA) & Shiv Sharma (Berlin, MA).
