Worcester Academy fell to visiting St. Andrew's School, 95-84.
Two straight triples by junior guard Paul Durkee (Shrewsbury, MA) & junior forward Mitch Doherty (Acton, MA) getting to the free throw line kept WA in the game early. St. Andrew's went on a run, and took a 46-35 lead into the locker room.
WA came out hot in the second half. Back-to-back 3-pointers by forwards Matt Corey (Londonderry, NH) and Judson Martindale (Sudbury, MA) cut into the lead. The two scored the first 11 points of the half as WA cut the deficit to four points. St. Andrew's would pull away during the middle of the half, but WA got it back to single digits inside of two minutes. St. Andrew's was able to hang on for the victory.
Martindale lead the Hilltoppers with 18 points. Durkee & junior guard Jordan McAllister (Newburgh, NY) each scored 17 points, while Doherty chipped in 15.
WA falls to 8-13 overall, and 7-9 in NEPSAC Class AA. They will head to Maine for the weekend to take on league opponent Gould Academy on Saturday at 4pm, and longtime rival Bridgton Academy on Sunday at 1pm.
