Playing their second game in the Zero Gravity Prep Classic in Rhode Island, WA played hard & tough again, but dropped the contest to fellow NEPSAC Class AA member South Kent School.
South Kent came out on fire and established an 8-0 lead early. A barrage of 3-point shooting pushed the Hilltoppers into the lead for most of the half, as junior guards Paul Durkee (Shrewsbury, MA), Manav Randhawa (Ajax, CAN) & Dylan Lien (Northborough, MA) all knocked down shots from deep. In addition to drilling an important 3-pointer, sophomore forward Judson Martindale (Sudbury, MA) was able to get in the paint and convert his scoring opportunities. Martindale scored 14 points in the first half, while Randhawa scored 11. Thanks to a late Quest Harris (Lowell, MA) layup, WA went into the locker room with a 34-33 lead.
South Kent came out on fire from deep early in the half, and never looked back. With a lead in single digits for most of the half, SKS pulled away late for an 80-63 win.
Martindale posted a career-high 22 points. Durke & Randhawa each finished with 11, while sophomore center Josh Ogundele (London, ENG) scored 8 points.
Worcester Academy falls to 1-2 overall and 1-1 in NEPSAC Class AA. They will travel to Tilton School for another tough league game at 5:00pm on Wednesday, then will host the annual Thomas Blackburn Tournament here at WA on Saturday & Sunday.
