A six-week program, MindStretch@Worcester Academy will feature MindStretch/Science, designed to complement a traditional curriculum and to challenge high achieving students to build their understanding of key topics in science in a hands-on, individualized environment.
Saturday mornings, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Feb. 20 to March 27
MindStretch@Worcester Academy was created by the Middle School faculty of Worcester Academy, a talented team who understand how to engage 4th and 5th grade students with relevant topics and compelling teaching strategies.
Workshops are set for Saturdays, Feb. 20 to March 27, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., and are open to students currently in Grades 4 and 5. The cost is $150 per student.
MINDSTRETCH/SCIENCE Bill Osborn, seasoned Worcester Academy faculty member, will lead students through a series of engaging science topics in the life sciences, physical sciences, chemistry, and astronomy. Just a few of the planned activities: learning about circuits and electricity by using batteries, fans, small motors, lights, and wires; creating interesting and unexpected chemical reactions; applying Newton's Laws of Motion with toy trucks, rubber bands, and rocket motors; and investigating planetary motion and eclipses, while also learning how to use refractor and reflector telescopes.
