We are pleased to introduce a new weekend enrichment program -- MindStretch@Worcester Academy -- created especially for students in Grades 4 and 5.
MindStretch@Worcester Academy will feature two separate six-week workshops, MindStretch/Art and MindStretch/Science, designed to complement traditional curriculum and to challenge high achieving students to build their understanding of key topics in art or science in a hands-on, individualized environment.

MindStretch/Art and MindStretch/Science were created by the Middle School faculty of Worcester Academy, a talented team who understands how to engage 4th and 5th grade students with relevant topics and compelling teaching strategies.
Inaugural workshops are set for Saturdays, Jan. 10 to Feb. 14, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., and are open to students currently in Grades 4 and 5. The cost is $150 per workshop.
MindStretch@Worcester Academy workshop descriptions are as follows.
MindStretch/Art
Join artist and teacher Elizabeth Bowles for a six-week workshop and learn to turn your photographs into beautiful landscape paintings. Topics covered include all elements of composing a landscape from an inspirational image to a final product in chalk pastel or oil paint. We will explore editing a scene for good composition, using software such as Adobe Photoshop as a planning tool, creating atmospheric perspective, and enhancing color for maximum effect.
MindStretch/Science
Science teacher Bill Osborn will lead students through a series of engaging science topics in the life sciences, physical sciences, chemistry, and astronomy. Just a few of the planned activities: exploring the concepts of mass and inertia by constructing miniature rollercoasters from insulation tubing; creating interesting and unexpected chemical reactions; investigating moon phases and planetary motions; and learning how to use large reflector and refractor telescopes from atop Kingsley Hall.
