Weekly Athletic Update

Track & Field rarely has two meets in a week, but a rain cancellation from the previous week saw them jump into action on both Wednesday and Saturday. The mid-week event was a success as the weather cooperated just long enough to secure a pair of verdicts over Bancroft and the Cambridge School of Weston. Bettie Eisenberg was stellar with three 1^st place finishes on the afternoon (long jump, hurdles and in the 4 x 100 relay as well). Maryah Muldrow also excelled with a win in the triple jump and a 2^nd in the 400m race. Tyler Cook ’25 was superb in the throwing events again registering a 1^st in the discus, and a pair of 2^nd place finishes in the Shot and the Javelin. Austin Bombardo ’27 grabbed a 1^st in the long jump and a 1^st in the triple jump and fellow frosh, Cavan Gardner had a 1^st in the 800 and a piece of the 4 X 400 relay win. Saturday’s quad meet was very competitive and once again Bette Eisenberg ’26 was the top overall point person on the girls’ side while Harry Martel ’25 qualified for the New England Championships in the 1500 with an :11 second improvement from his previous PR. Chad Parsons ’27 qualified as well for the NE Championship in the 200m.

Varsity Baseball grabbed an important league win on Saturday as they pushed past Dexter-Southfield in extra frames. On Wednesday the hometown team couldn’t hang onto a late game lead as they fell to the Winchendon School by a 5-4 count. The Hilltoppers have a return encounter with Winchendon on Wednesday as they travel to North country for a 3:30 pm game.

Softball also had a busy week as they managed to play 3 contests, a pair at home and a road loss to Williston in the middle frame. Senior Katie Foley had a productive day on Saturday with a pair of hits, 2 stolen bases and some quality put outs on the diamond, but Westminster School held on for a 6-3 victory.
Golf had their best team effort of the season but dropped a 206-223 match to a hospitable Suffield team in Connecticut on Thursday. Seniors Tyler Hughes and Bradan Duggan were standouts for the visitors.
Boys’ Lacrosse had one of their best 2-way efforts at Morse on Saturday but dropped a close contest to Wilbraham & Monson by a 5-3 score. On Wednesday, the team picked up a solid win in Seekonk as Alex Emery (4 goals) and Chris Hughes ’25 (a goal and 7 assists) led the way to a win over the Wheeler School.
Girls’ Lacrosse dropped a pair of contests to two of the upper tiered programs in the region. Lawrence Academy and Newton Country Day School proved to have too much balance for the Hilltoppers who competed hard but fell short in the win column.
It’s been a while since our Girls’ Tennis team could play a match, but they performed admirably in Wednesday’s conquest of Wilbraham & Monson School. The 7-2 win was highlighted by a series of high caliber matches as WA began their stretch run to the New England Championships. On Wednesday the team will travel to NMH for a 4:00 pm match.

Boys Tennis pushed past Marianapolis by a 3-2 score in an exhausting, competitive Saturday morning match. On Wednesday, despite the best efforts of the entire team, the Hilltoppers fell to Cushing by a 6-3 score and followed this performance up with a tough loss to Wilbraham & Monson on Thursday. Senior leaders – Lucas McCarthy, Rishi Toke and Omar Saber continue to play fine tennis - and have provided inspiration to some of the younger team members like Anthony El-Nemr and Jaden Aytek.
Crew continued their season with a pair of races at Lake Quinsigamond and the grit and determination of both the Novice boat and the B1 boat are reasons for encouragement as the season winds down.
